Klinik Hohe Mark

The Klinik Hohe Mark in Oberursel offers a comprehensive treatment program for various mental illnesses in its psychotherapeutic department, including borderline disorders.

The department comprises a total of 72 therapy places.

  • Depression
  • Borderline disorders
  • Eating disorders (on a dedicated ward)
  • Anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders
  • Severe relationship conflicts
  • Narcissistic disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorders

The primary approach is depth psychology-based individual and group therapy. Behavioral therapy approaches are integrated where this enhances the effectiveness of treatment.

Various physician- and psychologist-led group therapy forms are added depending on the indication:

  • Art therapy
  • Experience-oriented interactional groups
  • Creative therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Dance therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Various body therapy approaches

In this way, impulses and stimuli from many directions work together, serving to improve self-perception and enabling trial action on various levels.

It is important that patients live together in manageable relational spaces with consistent contact persons. This is achieved through the ward division with a maximum of 18 treatment places, where patients:

  • Share their group therapies
  • Eat together
  • Share the same common rooms

It has proven helpful in the department to integrate those affected into existing groups (rather than creating a special “borderline corner”). The specific relationship problems become very quickly apparent, particularly in communal living.

The clinic then tries to enable those affected to work through these issues within the context of the group. Trusted individuals provide the necessary stability and help to gradually overcome absolute viewpoints that determine feelings and actions.

The goal is to bring both sides — into which the world splits in the case of splitting (such as good/evil, present/absent) — into contact with each other, to enable integration and constancy in relationships.

Therapy is often characterized by intense emotional fluctuations and impulses of those affected, possibly including self-harm tendencies. Therapy contracts are used here, which are individually negotiated and discussed with the patients to set protective boundaries.

Where eating disorders are the primary concern, admission takes place on the eating disorders ward.

Treatment duration is approximately 8 weeks, but can be extended if necessary.

Since the clinic is included in the hospital needs plan, any physician can issue a referral.

  1. First, a brief medical report with diagnosis and short description of the presenting problem is needed
  2. This is sent to the admissions office
  3. The clinic will then respond and communicate when a therapy place becomes available
  4. If appropriate, the patient may also be invited for a preliminary interview
