Case Study M

A predestined example

M. is female, 38 years old, beautiful, intelligent, and very successful in her career. She studied at university and experienced a great deal during that time. She is 1.78 m tall and weighs 56-58 kg, so very slender. Incredibly long legs, long blonde hair, and green eyes. In other words, a woman that many a man would eagerly pursue.

Nothing extraordinary in principle. Let us take a closer look at M., piece by piece. She has a wonderful laugh, is often exuberantly happy, and can abruptly fall into the deepest sadness. Looking at her face, it appears younger than 38, yet one can discern a certain weariness. Her eyes can shine like stars and within the shortest time show deep emptiness, rage, or hatred, as can her entire expression. She is different from others, impulsive, does wild things that do not necessarily fit the norm.

She loves to dance, though for her it is not merely dancing. With eyes closed, she surrenders to another world. Her body moves to the rhythm of the music in a way that defies description.

Eyes closed and a smile on her face, as if she finds access to her deepest self.

If one observed her superficially, one only saw a woman who could dance very well. If one looked more closely, one could see what profound inner feelings this person was expressing. As if she became one with herself, with the child within her that she hated, with the mother she loved so much and yet hated. In dance, she seemed to forget all pain, to dissolve.

She can be like a small child and then once again a woman. Tender, empathetic, understanding, full of devotion — and in the next moment cold, brutal, dismissive.

Up to this point, M. is not necessarily extraordinary, is she?

She has a teddy bear that is almost as old as she is. Her friend and confidant. He knew her wishes, worries, troubles, fears. With him she could talk, be understood, not rejected. With him she was allowed to cry. He was always there and accompanied her through the years. When M. was doing poorly and one put her to bed, placed the teddy in her arms and sat beside her, stroking her hair, she radiated what every mother or father among you knows.

As a child, her favorite fairy tale, like that of many unloved girls, was the Frog Prince.

One often had the feeling that she, the princess, lived only for the moment of redemption by the prince.
